2007 Zinfandel (Crimson Hill Vineyard)

Zinfandel (Crimson Hill Vineyard)

This wine was grown, produced and bottled at our estate winery in the Red Hills District of Lake County. The vineyard and winery are at 2000 feet elevation and overlook the southern end of Clear Lake.  The seven acre vineyard block is planted in well-drained, sloped, crimson red, volcanic soil that provides the perfect site for growing great red wines.  The climate is ideal for mid- to late-season reds.  The vineyard receives daily full sun with warm temperatures in the spring and summer that are tempered by daily afternoon mistrals.

The grapes were gently de-stemmed and cold soaked for three days. Fermentation was in small open top fermentors where the must was “punched down” twice daily until fermentation subsided.  The new wine was then aged in French oak barrels for 11 months and blended with 5% Petite Sirah from the neighboring Rolling Knolls Vineyard.

This fruity Zinfandel exhibits ripe raspberry fruit with hints of dark chocolate, lavender and spearmint.  The thick flavors are of juicy ripe raspberry fruit puree with hints of orange zest and ginger.

Enjoy this wine with sweet BBQ or as an after dinner satisfier.

Cost: $ 24.00 each, $ 288.00 per case of 12

Zinfandel (Crimson Hill Vineyard) Wine Information

The most versatile grape variety grown in California and is likely the variety that is best suited for our northern California climate where it allows each producer to craft his or hers own unique style. Gregory Graham has chosen a riper style with concntrated fruit. The wine is harvested at high brix, or sugar, to produce a "stand alone" wine that would be diminished with blending.
